If there’s one cheat day where we get to have all our favourite mithais and dress up like a Sabyasachi model, then it’s the season of lights. It is like a free pass where we can channel our inner Laddo from K3G and have just about everything! Even if it means doing an extra round of cardio the next day.
And let’s be honest, is it really the season of lights if we don’t have that one last ‘gujiya’ or just one more ‘kaju katli’? But how long will you even have these? I mean, ‘thoda change toh zaruri hai na!’
And, what better way than feasting on some regional mithais all over the country? The best part is, these sweets might even add that festive zing to your party. So, switch on your ‘mithai mode’ and let the feasting begin!
1. Goan Nevri, Goa
Who says Goa is just known for its chorizo pav? Have you tried their nevri yet? Have it once and you will forget all about croissants! Stuffed with cardamom, coconut, poppy seeds, almonds and whatnot, you JUST won’t be able to stop yourself at one, or two or four.
2. Basundi, Gujarat
Want to try a desi version of a Panna Cotta? Well, Basundi should be your guy! Made from sweet thickened milk cardamom, nutmeg and even dry fruits, you wouldn’t mind doing an extra rep of push-ups after munching on this.
3. Mohanthal, Rajasthan/Gujarat
Forget choco fudge and choco lava cake, just try Mohanthal once and you shall not remember the rest! Made from ghee-roasted besan and sugar, this mithai will melt in your mouth faster than any french delicacy.
4, Patishapta, West Bengal
Move over pancakes, Patishapta is here to stay! Easy to make and heavenly to taste, patishapta is made from a mix of milk, semolina, coconut and whatnot!
5. Chiraunji Ki Barfi, Madhya Pradesh
I scream you scream, all of us scream CHIRAUNJI! You know why? Because if kaju katli and a barfi had a baby, you would get sweet chiraunji ki barfi! And, if this is not the best of both worlds then I don’t know what is?
Now that we've got the menu covered, here's some great music to switch into full-on party mode. Listen to the latest McDowell's No.1 Yaari Jam song called "Yaari Ka Circle" by Tanishk Bagchi, Darshan Raval and Jonita Gandhi.
