2018 has been a chock-full of celebrity weddings. It almost seemed like all it took was for one couple to lead the way for the floodgates to open. From spur-of-the-moment ceremonies to hush-hush ones to surreal destination weddings, this year has been a lucky one for some of our absolute favourites. Not to forget, zillions of hearts that got shattered and the happy tears we cried when love prevailed.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas
Priyanka and Nick officially tied the knot on 1st December. The wedding was a lavish affair with two ceremonies – one Christian and one Hindu – at the Umaid Bhavan Palace, Jodhpur. Our desi girl and the American heartthrob first met through a common friend in 2016 and after dating for several months they finally got engaged in July 2018.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh
After years of speculation, Deepika and Ranveer, or as the fans like to call them, DeepVeer, finally got hitched at Lake Como, Italy on 14th November. They dated for 6 years before deciding to become man and wife. The couple had a ‘no-photo’ policy for all their ceremonies and kept the fans waiting till eternity for just a glimpse of their wedding looks. No wonder they broke the internet when they posted their pictures of Sindhi and Konkani wedding rituals.
Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi
Neha and Angad have been the best of friends but we still never saw it coming. They kept their relationship under covers successfully away from the prying eyes of the media. They had a private ceremony in New Delhi on 10th May. Both Neha and Angad looked adorable and extremely elated in their traditional Sikh wedding held in a Gurudwara.
Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja
The Veerey Di Wedding actress Sonam Kapoor married the love of her life, Anand Ahuja, the smart and dapper businessman on 8th May in Mumbai. This was the first grand wedding of Bollywood that saw all the biggies of the movie world. From Shah Rukh Khan to Ranveer Singh dancing the night away, their nuptials was truly a star-studded affair, the celebrations of which lasted for quite a long time.
Ankita Konwar and Milind Soman
Milind and Ankita tied the knot in a private ceremony in Alibaug on 22nd April. Theirs was a traditional Maharashtrian wedding and the couple looked totally adorbs in their colour coordinated attires. The couple had to go through a lot of criticism for the age gap between them. But hey, who is to judge? As they say, when it’s right, it’s right.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
The royal wedding was one of the most anticipated weddings of 2018. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry exchanged their vows at St. George’s Chapel. Celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, David and Victoria Beckham, George Clooney any many more attended the ceremony which is said to have costed a whopping $45 million!
Rose Leslie and Kit Harington
It’s safe to say Jon Snow ‘knows’ he loves his Ygritte! All the GoT fans rejoiced when their favourite couple got married on 23rd June in Aberdeen, Scotland. The typical Scottish wedding saw the couple beaming with happiness and setting our hearts aflutter.
Ginni Chatrath and Kapil Sharma
Kapil Sharma, the man whose rib-tickling talents are no secret, got married to his long-time girlfriend Ginni Chatrath on 12th December in his hometown, Jalandhar. There were two wedding rituals – a Hindu and an Anand Karaj one. The reception in Amritsar had the who’s who of tinsel town in attendance, blessing the couple on their new journey.
Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap
Badminton stars Saina and Parupalli were dating each other for 10 years and took to Twitter to announce their wedding on 14th December. But unlike the recent big fat Indian weddings, the couple chose to keep the affair private with a simple ceremony, which was held at Saina’s residence.
Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal
Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s wedding was truly grandeur personified. It surpassed all the other weddings in terms of grandiosity, be it the exquisite dishes being flown in from around the world or world-sensation Beyoncé performing for a private concert for the family and guests. The international crème de la crème was in attendance, including former US first-lady Hillary Clinton.
