Soft, mushy, and full of love. This rolled, bright snack is the most favourite Gujarati breakfast. Tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves and coconut, it consists of gram flour, salt and sugar as the main ingredients. This melt-in-the-mouth dish can be quite tricky to cook, especially getting the batter’s consistency right.
This savoury tea cake is the perfect Gujarati snack to binge on. Traditionally prepared over charcoal or in a pressure cooker, Handvo is soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. It is made up of a healthy mix of flour, coriander, buttermilk, lentils, rice and chillies.

Made from chickpea flour, Gathiya is the go-to dry snack of Gujarat that is loved by one and all. This deep-fried snack is soft after preparation and has a powdery texture. There are different variations available for this snack. Mitha Gathiya is a sweet version of this snack which is enjoyed with tea in the mornings or evenings.
Theplas can be called as Gujarati's version of a parantha. However, it's a little different. It is mostly made of wheat, green leafy fenugreek and spices mixed well in the dough. Accompany it with plain curd or chunda, or any mint chutney and we bet you won't be able to stop yourself from eating.
This Gujarati vegetable curry is made with a melange of winter vegetables like surti papdi, brinjals, potatoes and methi. What’s interesting about this recipe is that it is cooked upside down underground in clay pots. ‘Undhu’ translates to ‘upside down’ in Gujarati and that’s where the dish gets its name from.

Patra or Alu Vadi is one of the most mouth-watering snacks not just in Gujarat but the neighbouring state of Maharashtra too. This healthy steamed snack is made from Colocasia leaves and gram flour.
