Turn up the heat with some hot toddy

Surely a tall glass of hot chocolate will warm up your winter mornings. But as the sun starts to set and the temperature begins to drop, you’ll need a whiff of something hotter and heartier to keep you cosy. On winter nights like these, your ideal solution might be tucked away in that bar cabinet, just waiting to brighten up your seasonal slump.

So, mix up these delicious cocktails and gear up for the cold weather up ahead. 

Hot toddy has one job, to keep you warm and it does just that. 

60 ml hot water
50 ml McDowell's No.1 Platinum Whisky
1 tsp honey
2 tsp lemon juice
2-3 whole cloves
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 lemon slice for garnish
1 cinnamon stick for garnish

Pour the hot water into a mug.
Add the McDowell's No.1 Platinum whisky, lemon juice, honey, cloves and nutmeg to the water.
Keep stirring till the lemon juice and honey is dissolved well.
Garnish with the lemon slice and cinnamon stick.​


Warm up to some spicy eggnog

Because nothing says warm and cosy like a spicy rum-based cocktail. 


3 large eggs (room temperature) with yolks and whites separated
⅓ cup sugar
1 ½ cup whole milk
⅓ cup Captain Morgan Dark Rum
1 tsp vanilla essence 
1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
1/8 tsp nutmeg powder
1 pinch of freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon for garnish

In a blender, mix the egg yolks and sugar until it is smooth and creamy.
Add the milk, nutmeg powder, vanilla essence, cinnamon powder and Captain Morgan Dark Rum in the saucepan. Heat on low flame for 2-3 minutes.
Set it aside for 10 minutes and then stir it into the egg yolk and sugar mixture.
Whisk the reserved egg whites till they form stiff peaks and then fold it into the rest of the mix.
Garnish it with some freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon. Serve the eggnog warm.

Fire up your taste buds with some peppery ginger cider

With the right balance of spicy, sour, sweet and sharp flavours, this cocktail is sure to heat you up. 

125 ml apple cider
60 ml Johnnie Walker Gold Label Whisky
2-inch ginger root peeled and grated
Lemon juice to taste
2 maraschino cherries
Black pepper powder, star anise, cinnamon stick for garnish 

In a saucepan, bring the apple cider and Johnnie Walker Gold Label Whisky to a simmer.
Stir in the grated ginger and lemon juice to the mixture.
Add the cherries a mug and pour in the cider mix.
Sprinkle the drink with the black pepper powder
Add the star anise and cinnamon stick before you serve the drink warm.
