I like to believe most of us want to travel the world, experience foreign cultures and enjoy their delicacies. After all, there is no better way to savour the local flavour and meet new people than by ordering that destination's most famous cocktail. It can be a great conversation starter and who knows, it might just turn your evening into a memorable night.

And for those of you who are not planning a trip around the world, the best part of these cocktails is that you can have them wherever you are and get transported to the city they are from.  Well, at least in spirit!

1. Manhattan

Manhattan is one of the five cocktails named after New York City. It's been making a name for itself since the early 1880s and is probably the most famous drink in this list. This cocktail is a mix of whisky, sweet vermouth, and bitters. It is usually stirred and then strained into a cocktail glass. Sounds delicious, doesn't it? 

2. Singapore Sling

Singapore Sling is a gin-based cocktail invented by Ngiam Tong Boon for the Raffles Hotel in Singapore around 1915. It became a popular drink all around the world and is known for its eye-catching red colour and its lip-smacking tangy taste. This cocktail is made by mixing gin with cherry brandy, Benedictine, Angostura bitters, pineapple and lime juice. Have you tried it? 

3. Chicago Fizz

As the name suggests, the Chicago Fizz has its roots in the Windy City. Who created it and how it came to be is lost in history, but its classic mix of rich, tasty ingredients make for the perfect drink to sip on. Try it out today for an experience full of fizz and flavour.

4. London Fog

This classy drink is named after the weather feature of London city. This cocktail is made with dry gin, chilled water, and anise-flavoured spirit. The trick to make the perfect London Fog would be to use some crushed-up ice that dissolves quickly. You don’t have to go to London, just take a sip of this right here at home.

5. Boston Rum Punch

Boston was the home to the American Revolution, and it’s not surprising that this cocktail would pack on a powerful punch. This simple concoction is made from rum, lemonade, and a little bit of nutmeg.
